Welcome to the online portfolio of Garrett Patterson. This is a collection of web
projects done over several years for school, work, and personal use. I decided to
put both old and new web sites here because even knowing so much more now than I
used to, I am still proud of alot of my old designs and ideas. It also gives you
a full spectrum of my work, what has changed, and what hasn't!
I have been creating websites and working with html since around 1999. I began learning
html on my own in 8th grade (1998 sometime) and was self-taught up until 2004 when
I took my first real web-technology class at Western Washington University. I have
always been a big code-hound, working in text-editors from the beginning; I find
it easier to work with things at their most basic level, which gives you the most
control. My philosophy is that you need to know what and where things are happening
underneath. I practice to the best of my abilities designing to accessibility standards
created by the W3C, and focusing on separating design from content using CSS as
much as possible. Personally, I am not the most artistic person, my strengths are
in the functionality & coding especially with server-side scripting like ASP.NET.
I have also begun to dive into the hardware and open-source side of things. See
the "This Site" section for more information on my Windows Server 2003 machine,
and my new Linux machine; which I hope to run Apache and begin learning more php.
